Below are just a few of the projects that we have been involved with

utilizing the LonWorks based open control lines that we represent

Battelle Memorial Institute:

New state of the art 200,000 sq. ft. Laboratory Building

The New Lab incorporates a state of the art Honeywell monitoring and control system consisting of (11) standalone DDC controllers and  (180) XL10 LonMark®  unitary controllers. The individual laboratory temperature control and critical airflow monitoring are done through the unitary controllers while the major physical plant controls are accomplished using XL 500 / 100 programmable DDC controllers. The total monitored point count is in excess of  2,000 points which is displayed at the Excel Building Supervisor PC front end. This information is also being received at the main facilities Excel Building Supervisor PC front end  which  monitors another 3,000 points of  Honeywell  temperature control panels throughout the existing 1.4Million square foot facility.

Rhodes State Office Tower:

Open system solution supplies comfort, flexibility and

ease of maintenance for Ohio Building Authority

The 41-story James A. Rhodes State Office Tower in Columbus, Ohio, is home to a wide variety of Ohio State agencies. But until recently, the 1.3 million sq. ft. building was definitely not a comfortable place for its many workers and visitors. Temperature fluctuations were constant; in the summer it was hot, and in the winterit was cold. All that has changed since the installation of a new Honeywell control system with a LonMark®  technology backbone.

The unique requirement of integrating a LonWorks control network into a building automation system was awarded to Advanced Control Systems, Inc., of Columbus, a Honeywell EXCEL 5000Automation and Control Specialist Contractor. Jeff DeVore of Advanced Control Systems was responsible for integrating the two systems. The LonWorks temperature sensors are displayed at the graphical Windows NT Honeywell Excel Building Supervisor front end where they appear exactly the same to the operator as the Honeywell Excel 500 DDC points. The new Honeywell Excel Link feature allows the seamless integration of the two systems through the Echelon DDE Server. The data are also being used to reset air handling unit discharge air temperatures on the DDC system, and can be used to initiate other building control functions in the future, says DeVore. LonWorks network is physically connected to the Honeywell DDC system through a PCLTA (Lon Talk Adapter) located in the Excel Building Supervisor PC. Advanced Control Systems began work on the project in April 1997 and completed the integration by December. The project was signed off in January 1998 and is one of the first LonWorks/DDC integrated jobs in Columbus, according to DeVore.

Distribution Fulfillment Services:

Spiegel 4 million sq. ft. Distribution

Facility retrofits aging control system

Doug Pyles the Facility Manager at DFS was looking for a control system  that would integrate his existing 1970 technology Honeywell ® Delta 2000 temperature control system with a new cutting edge DDC control system for the newly revamped physical plant.   Advanced Control Systems was awarded the job and has been working closely with Doug to incorporate the new control capabilities without interrupting the ongoing day to day operations of the facility. The PC front end was  updated to an ESUSA Unity w/ Delta 2000 & NexSys interfaces. The system has performed flawlessly allowing the existing Delta system to be monitored while the new LonWorks  DDC system controls the physical plant. To the end user all points appear the same at the graphical front end.

Eddie Bauer Groveport Distribution Facility:

I-Lon Open system solution supplies control and utility

verification by logging critical data

The 2 million square foot distribution center needed a control system / facility data logging over-haul capable of open protocol LonWorks to IP / Web based front end monitoring.

The new system seamlessly delivers Web based monitoring and control of both LonWorks, and MODBUS control networks via the (9) I-Lon 100 Internet Servers. The LonWorks nodes consist of Kele-PT 9000 Electric Meters, Nose-Temp/Humidity/CO/CO2/VOC, Honeywell-VAV/T7350/RIO, Distech-EC Dispaly/RTU, Echelon-LonPoints. The I-Lon 100 Internet Servers also monitor the (6) Computer Room Liebert control systems via the included MODBUS interface. .
